Book Blurb:
An ancient predator has been reborn in the caves beneath Crater Lake…and it’s hungry.
Ex-cop
Henry Shore has been Chief Park Ranger at Crater Lake National Park for
eight years and he likes his park and his life the way it’s been. Safe.
Tranquil. Predictable. But he’s about to be tested in so many ways.
First the earthquakes begin…people begin to go missing…then there’s some
mysterious water creature that’s taken up residence in the caves below
Crater Lake and it’s not only growing in size, it’s aggressive and
cunning…and very hungry.
Book Blurb:
Two victims. One sociopath. Lots of terror.
Serial killer Rad Sanders has big plans for his teenage victims:
Lu
will watch as he kills Lisa and be offered a choice – become his slave
or share the fate of her friend. Then Rad will get so deep inside her
that she will no longer know where he ends and the pathetic remnants of
herself begin.
But Lu has a little surprise for Rad . . .
My review:
I'm not sure why I was under the impression that this was a YA (Young Adult) novel. Boy was I wrong. This is a truly gruesome and graphic tale!
Book Blurb:
In Beatrice Prior's
dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each
dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue--Candor (the
honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the
peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every
year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will
devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between
staying with her family and being who she really is--she can't have
both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.
During
the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames
herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out
the choice they have made.
As some of you may remember I recently joined a small local writer's group. We assigned ourselves a little bit of homework to be completed by our next meeting which happens to be tomorrow. Our homework was to write something short - a paragraph or short story. Just write something, anything.
Although I've recently begun a second novel and am still in the process of revising my first, I wanted to write a short piece for the group meeting but
I lacked inspiration. I searched the web and found a Dynamic Story
Starter program at http://freeology.com/journal/dynamic-story-starter/.
It gives you options of a character, a setting, and a conflict. I played with it until I picked a homeless teenager, a tree house, and the loss of all possessions. This is what I came up with to share with the group. What do you think?
Warning - this story contains obscene language.
Book Blurb:
After a terrible virus
ravages the planet, Carly Daniels, one of the few survivors, hides in
her apartment in Juneau trying to survive the best she can with only
occasional forays to gather food. With her is Sam, a wolf puppy she
found starving on the streets. He becomes her companion and a reason to
continue when giving up sometimes seems like the more attractive option.
Still dazed with shock and grief, she hopes for the world to go back to
normal soon.
She is discovered by Justin, an ex-soldier who is
intent on making his way to Florida before the winter sets in. Justin
coaxes her out of her hiding place and convinces her to join him on his
journey, because a warmer climate will be their best chance against the
extremes of Mother Nature.
